The late, great Richard Attenborough has topped a new British list of the best movie Santas.

His role as Father Christmas in the 1994 "Miracle on 34th Street" remake edged out Tom Hanks' motion picture turn as the man with all the toys in "The Polar Express" in streaming service NOW TV's survey.

Compilers asked film fans in the U.K, for their favorite big screen Santa Clauses, and Attenborough's Kris Kringle landed an impressive 43 per cent of the vote.

Hanks was a distant second with 27 per cent, while "The Santa Clause"'s Tim Allen came in third with 22 per cent.

Edward Asner's Santa in 2003 comedy "Elf" and David Huddleston's role in "Santa Claus: The Movie" complete the festive top five.
